About Denise
I have many years of training and experience in the healing arts integrating modalities e.g. Neuromuscular Therapy, Physical Therapy, Exercise Science, Massage, Thai Massage, Sports massage, Reflexology, and Guided Imagery.
I am a physically active person which formal training starting for me at eight-years-old with training in classical dance and expanding over the years into track/trail running, yoga, cycling (road, mountain, cycle-cross), swimming, Olympic weight lifting, hiking, cross-country/downhill skiing, and kayaking. My active life style has brought about a great deal of awareness about bodies in motion. Combined with my education I have been able to blend a practice grounded in evidence-based interventions with experience.
My treatments focus equally on the athlete and non-athlete alike, everyone has issues with pain, stress, and discomfort and difficulty in movement from time to time. However, my practice will expand to include a a health/wellness counseling component bringing together a holistic approach over the next year.
Evolution of my practice has me, yet again through continued education and training, focused on helping people obtain optimal Health and Wellness. There is a saying I have; "You are the most important person involved in your health care." This said, the intention for my practice entails promoting a holistic or total mind/body approach to health and healing. Through the support of an evidence-based approach individuals may benefit from such guidance with improvement expressed by following their goals for achieving their highest potential regardless of the situation.
There is a plethora of literature and good science on NOT the connection between mind, body, spirit thus separating us into parts but supporting they cannot be separated. We pocess a synergistic body. The biology/physiology, psychological(mental, emotional, spiritual), and social/environment we inhabit make up our human experience. Wellness involves all areas. If one area is impacted then all are impacted. A wellness approach for individuals is key. My philosophy is live life from the inside then what flows out will be authentic.
This newer approach we are experiencing is a combination of east/west philosophy. By combining our western observation, testing, and measurement techniques to eastern practices we are seeing possibilities beyond what we have experienced in the past or could have imagined. Hence the term "Integrated Medicine".
